  • Spelt is a word. Our generation is too fucking lazy to look up a word in the dictionary before correcting someone though.

    • Wow yeah Spelt is a word but the point is it makes no sense in this context and makes the person using it look completely unintelligent.

      • How is it out of context?

        • Well it's an ancient wheat... how does it make any sense in that sentence? It also means to split wood, but yeah the correct word is "spelled". The only way it would make sense is if that person was from Britain... Just saying.

          • Lol, "Spelt" or "Spelled" can be used for the past tense of spell. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/spelt And what does being in Britain have to do with anything? English is English.

            • "Spelt" is a legitimate alternative to "spelled." But, it does sound a bit uneducated, so it's odd to hear it in the context of attacking someone else's grammar/spelling/etc. So...I agree with all of you.

            • Clearly you must be some sort of an idiot. There is British English and there is American English (as well as different English dialects and different countries that speak English as a second language) so no, English is not English.

          • The word is "spelled" in the USA, and "spelt" in Canada, Europe, Australia, Commonwealth, Africa, and Asia...

  • Spelt is a word, more common in England than here in America. Doesn't make it wrong. I think it sounds better than "spelled"

  • Wow people need to chill on how some words are used in context and spelling things. I'm not the best speller at times and the way this world uses grammar is just poor and people just go with the flow of it.

  • It can be either spelt or spelled- like burnt and burned. Spelt and burnt are more common in England, though.
